It’s been a tough week. I’m tired and struggling with a cold. But beyond that, my soul is weary.

While God has called me to wear many hats, I’m not the multi-tasker I used to think I was. Navigating this multi-faceted, multi-called life He’s given me, is thrilling at times – exhausting at others.

I’ve really tried to accept this winter ailment as a gift, and taken the last few days to rest and relax. But this morning, important obligations scream for my attention.

Gratefully, I feel better so I’m trying to catch up, but to be honest…I’m struggling with overwhelm.

Perhaps you are as well.

My sweet assistant, Rachel Krahn, put together this beautiful set of scriptures and reflections that enouraged me today, and I believe they’ll encourage you as well. For the best part of being a Christian is the fact we don’t do this life alone.

Seven Verses for When You are Weary

Put your hope in God and He will give you strength.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31

Our hope is not found in having an easy life or in a specific outcome. We have hope for today and a better tomorrow because we have a good God who loves us and in whom nothing is impossible!

You are never too dry or too empty for God to completely replenish you.

“For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.” Jeremiah 31:25

God’s love is lavish. His wells run deep. His resources are unlimited. His grace is sufficient.

Stop trying to do and be everything on your own and let God be God.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

“Cease striving and know that I am God” (NASB)

There is nothing more exhausting than striving and always trying to earn approval or prove your value. God invites you to cease striving and rest in His grace. Because of Him, you are already enough.

God offers you rest in exchange for your burdens.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29

Rather than add to the weight of expectations and heavy burdens on your mind, God wants to give you rest – physical, emotional, and spiritual rest. Run to your gentle Father and allow Him to hold you in His loving arms.

You don’t have to try harder to find God, He is already there.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

No matter where you are and no matter what you need God is there. He is able and willing to help you.

Nothing is too little or too big to take to God in prayer.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

God cares about every fear, doubt, stress, and burden you are carrying because He cares about YOU!

Your Shepherd leads you with purpose and walks beside you with compassion.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:1-4

God knows what you need. Like a good shepherd, He ensures we have seasons of rest in green pastures and beside quiet waters. He also knows that in order to get to some of those restful places we may have to walk through a dark valley first, but He offers His presence to guide, protect and comfort us every step of the way.

No hurt is overlooked, no pain is wasted, no child of God is left behind. God will carry you through to the other side.
