Invitation to 2022 Thru the Word Bible Reading ChallengeWant to experience the Bible in a brand new way?

I’m so excited to invite you to this year’s new Bible Reading Challenge: Thru the Word 2022.

Last year, we read a chapter a day in the Bible and it’s been so beautiful to read people’s insights over at my Facebook page.

This year, we’re going to be reading the whole Bible – God’s love letter to us in its entirety!

I know that sounds daunting. To be honest, for years I wasn’t able to get beyond Leviticus, until someone gave me a Bible reading plan that took me back and forth between the Old Testament and New.

When I couldn’t find my copy or it’s source, I decided to create my own plan based on the same type of approach.

Thru the Word Reading Plan

Rather than reading straight through the Bible, my schedule alternates between the Old Covenant and New. Giving you a birds-eye view of God’s amazing plan of redemption, and His perfect grace woven through each and every page.

You’ll see that we’ve scattered “Catch Up & Reflect” days throughout the plan – one each week and several at the end of each month (depending on it’s length.)

These “grace days” really made the difference for me. Though I want to do things perfectly, I rarely do. These extra days are great for catching up if you get behind, or working in advance if you have a busy week ahead.

Please don’t let your Bible reading be another duty to check off your list, but rather, a meaningful chance to spend time with Jesus. If it takes you longer than a year, don’t worry about it! The crucial thing is to read through the Bible in a way that gets through to you.

To help you do that, we’ve created the Thru the Word 2022 Reading Journal. You’ll find tips inside for getting the most of your Bible reading, plus spots to record what stood out to you in the Word as well as the devotional (see below). Just follow instructions found on page 3 of the journal. Sign up below!

How to Approach Your Daily Reading

This year-long program isn’t a religious exercise. We aren’t reading the Bible to gain brownie points with God. This challenge is intended to help us make room for God to speak into our lives.

If you miss a day, don’t give up! We’re not aiming for perfection, but progression. Our goal is to cultivate a daily habit.

Here’s how I suggest you approach your time alone with Jesus…

1. Before you begin, ask the Holy Spirit to remove any preconceived ideas or biases so that you can receive a fresh word from the Lord.

2. Read the assigned scripture portion slowly until something speaks to you.

  • In journal, write the verse(s) word-for-word, including the reference.
  • Write down how it impressed you.

3. Take it all to the Lord in prayer.

4. Share what God spoke to you by leaving a comment at Facebook’s daily assignment thread.

I know the Lord is going to speak to your heart. God has a word for you, my friend!
